Yunjie Wang's journey in education and research began with a strong foundation in music teaching. With a deep love for music and a desire to share its transformative power, Yunjie pursued a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. During this time, Yunjie developed a keen interest in addressing educational challenges, particularly in relation to dyslexia. Motivated by the belief that every individual deserves equal access to education, Yunjie embarked on a path to explore dyslexia in a mainland China context. As a first-year PhD student at UCL, Yunjie is committed to shedding light on the unique challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia in the Chinese education system. By conducting rigorous research and advocating for inclusive practices, Yunjie aims to contribute to the development of effective strategies to support dyslexic learners. Yunjie's research endeavors go beyond dyslexia and extend into the domains of community music and informal music education. Recognizing the power of music in fostering social connections and personal growth, Yunjie delves into the practices of informal music learning within community music settings. By studying how individuals engage with music in non-formal settings, Yunjie aims to promote inclusivity within community music programs, including those catering to special education.
