Vicky Charisi Vicky is a research scientist at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in the unit of Digital Transformation with a focus on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on human behaviour. Her research mainly informs policymaking in the area of artificial intelligence in education and ethics in AI. She regularly collaborates with international organizations (UNICEF, IEEE, etc.) and industry. Lately, she is also interested in cross-cultural aspects of AI in Education and she has initiated and coordinated a project on AI-mediated global citizenship education, with the involvement of schools from Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, and the USA. Before joining the JRC, in 2018, she was a research associate at the University of Twente with a focus on Child-Robot Interaction (social robots and play activities, inquiry learning, and special education). Before joining academia, Vicky was a music specialist in primary and secondary education, for 8 years. Vicky has co-authored more than 60 publications. She is regularly part of organizing committees of conferences and she serves as an associate editor at the International Journal of Child-Computer Interaction and as a chair at the IEEE Society of Computational Intelligence, Cognitive and Developmental Systems, Task Force on Human-Robot Interaction.

Vicky is currently finalizing her Ph.D. thesis under the supervision of Prof. Evangelos Himonides and Prof. Graham Welch at the UCL, Institute of Education on “Music-Making in Digital Environments: Processes and Interactions in Early Childhood” for which she conducted a repeated session study of computer-supported collaborative music-making with 5 years old children. Vicky holds a Bachelor’s degree in Musicology and a Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Didactics, and Evaluation both from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
