Kate Laurence Kate began her career as a secondary school teacher in London schools during the 1990s, including ten years in the role of Director of Music and, later, becoming an Assistant Headteacher. Alongside this, Kate became an Advanced Skills Teacher, supporting and teaching primary and secondary music and leading large ensembles both within and across a number of Westminster schools.

Since undertaking the role of secondary PGCE Music Subject Leader and Lecturer in Education at UCL, Kate has taught across a range of ITE routes including the PGCE, School Direct and salaried courses, as well as the MA in Music Education and MTeach programmes. In addition to this, Kate has led professional learning programmes and CPD days for classroom music teachers in England and Wales and, more recently, has undertaken professional work with schools and universities in Sweden.

Kate's doctoral research focuses on the process of using narrative inquiry to understand experienced teachers' professional learning over time.
